Welcome to the activity and leisure section of The Bright Times. Common sense tells us that physical activity can have an impact on wellbeing, just as inactivity can contribute to a broad range of illness.
Physically active adults benefit from a reduced risk of premature death as well as a reduced risk of some major disease. Children gain social and physical development from the hobbies they engage in. A link has also been seen between leisure time activity in adolescence and psychological wellbeing in later life. Activities do not just affect our wellbeing but also that of those around us, our families and friends all benefit from the social interaction, motivation and peer group influences we gain through our hobbies.
For true wellbeing our activities should fit into our lifestyle, they should have space to evolve yet be attainable and consistent. Hobbies should be balanced and have an influence in our lives in a positive way.
And of course we must all take some time to relax, away from the stresses and strains of our everyday lives. Leisure time can be spent in many different ways, a week in the sun, a day on the golf course, a picnic in the park; ambles through the countryside ... the list is endless but in each issue we'll take a look at what’s available in Worcestershire....
